Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] The article traces the history of the library of Franciscans in Jerusalem using mainly the signs of possession and the notes as they appear on the books of the fifteenth and sixteenth century preserved in Jerusalem. It is very likely that the Franciscans who settled in the Holy Land at the beginning of the 13th century possessed books. These are probably liturgical books or for meditation. It can not be excluded that they also possessed books about the holy places. However, we can not speak of a true Franciscan library in Jerusalem until the beginning of the 16th century. From that moment, the Library of the Custody of the Holy Land has lived an uninterrupted history until today.
