Abstract
Some Observations on the New Fragment of the Scythica Vindobonensia, 192r · This\r\nnew fragment of Dexippus deals with a plague, a consultation of the Sibylline books and a\r\nGothic invasion in Thrace ; the synchronism of these three events fits with the years 253/254\r\nAD ; the consular date of 262, inserted by the author of the Historia Augusta, aimed to displace\r\nthem from the ‘good’ Valerianus to the ‘bad’ Gallienus ; the biographer kept drawing from\r\nthe Scythica only : consequently his use of Dexippus’ Chronica is a superfluous hypothesis.
