Abstract
Some peculiar aspects of newspaper reports in the different varieties of German language are considered. The fundamental structure (first comes the news, then the backgrounds) is responsible for the use of the Perfekt in the first utterance, whereas a Präteritum appears as a rule only in the following part, containing the background. This consitutes a major linguistic difference with respect to Italian reports.
