Abstract

This essay deals with some unusual a nd arcaic words (sbar(r)a, stragettare, zoventura, sagio) found in 15th-16th century Italian chivalric novels, such as Boiardo’s “Inamoramento de Orlando”, and the anonymous “Falconetto” and “Vendetta di Falconetto”. Lexicographical explanations are given, with regard to different texts, and a special digression is devoted to the foreignism ‘turbante’, which is unattested in the novels, though the exotic hat is often worn by the muslim characters
