[Autom. eng. transl.] The text proposes guidelines for overall 'guidelines' inherent to the management of banks of human biological materials and the data referable to them, with specific regard to the following topics: 1. What definition of biobank? 2. Functions and structure of the biobank 3. The ethical code of the biobank 4. The donation of the biological sample 5. Biobanks and informed consent 6. The return of the results to the patient / donor 7. The communication of the results to the family members 8. The biobank and the role of the ethics committee. 9. The problems inherent in the establishment of networks between biobanks 10. Transfers of biological material 11. The other collections of biological materials and the so-called historical collections. 12. Training of biobank staff
