Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] Several studies have shown how creativity and innovation are influenced by factors such as social infrastructures and relational patterns that are established between different actors, be they individuals or organizations. Similarly, other research has identified how the organizational solutions adopted by companies and work groups, for example in terms of coordination mechanisms and systems, also digital, for sharing knowledge, play an important role in influencing creativity and innovation of teams and companies. In this chapter we want to study which are the key organizational variables that can favor the interactions and the coordination of the actors that use the spaces of collaboration, taking into consideration also the recent technological innovations, in particular the digital information and communication technologies that they facilitate remote collaboration and allow the integration, according to different mixes, of the face-to-face relationships typical of physical spaces with the relational dynamics of virtual teams. Understanding how different modes of collaboration mix and integrate is particularly interesting because on one hand the importance of physical co-localization does not seem to be lacking despite the increased possibility of remote collaboration due to new enabling technologies; on the other hand, the evidence suggests that the people who use and "inhabit" these physical places use additional methods of collaboration and work, such as tools for collaborating at a distance or attending other spaces, including those "own" of the organizations with which some of these people have stable and formalized working relationships.
