Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] For Joachim of Fiore († 1202) the problem of the chord and its intelligibility constitutes a central and almost obsessive theme. We find it in his work in many forms: in his method of interpreting the Scriptures according to the "harmony" between the Old and New Testaments; in his diagrams; in the concrete or ideal organization of the forms of religious life he imagined; in his remarks on his time and his conflicts, considered to be signs of the near end of time. The contributions collected in the volume explore these different aspects, paying particular attention to the context: the theme of the chord runs throughout the twelfth century; through Joachim's point of view - at times disconcerting, but well rooted in the culture of those years - we can better understand his time
