Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] The essay offers an examination of the international economic literature that has analyzed the characteristics of the territories in which populist movements and parties have gained the greatest support. This will also allow us to relate the possible impact of globalization, as well as (European) fiscal and monetary policies in determining the intensity of the populist consensus in the new geography of voting. Secondly, we will examine the results of a recent survey on values, preferences and explanations of vote during the 2018 general election (the latest for which such in-depth analysis is available). Finally, we will propose an analysis of the trends of the Italian economy and society over the last decade, relating them to policies to combat poverty and inequality.
