Oltre il determinismo e il vitalismo: la vita. Cronaca del convegno "What is life? Theology, science, and philosophy”

The article critically analyzes the topic of life according to the philosophical perspective emerged during the conference "What is life?". Within the cultural contemporary context, ethics on one hand is emphasized and on the other portrayed as a form of false knowledge, as human action would be genetically predetermined and human thought would simply be the result of an evolutionary-biological determinism. The value of the individual would thus depend on his/her membership to the species and on the progress of the latter. The same moral values ​​- which often take the place of a faith devoid of any reason and thus of historical incidence - are considered unnecessary or otherwise inappropriate, because confined to the place and the time in which they are proclaimed. Such a situation, if one side generates a cultural and human disorientation, on the other can be an ideal starting point to discover the true meaning of the term "life", as it has been argued in some of the most significant contributions (John Milbank, Robert Spaemann, Louis Dupré, David L. Schindler) presented during the same conference.
