Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] The spread of digital and social media and their pervasiveness of impact on people's lives has favored a process of normalization of Media Education: from a niche attention, it has become a widespread concern. The price to pay is simplification, the development of solutions that do not respect the complexity of the phenomena, the proliferation of instant books, checklists and decalogues that are closer to the logic of marketing than to the needs of education. The book moves from this situation to describe a three-stage itinerary. The first is the reconstruction of the history of Media Literacy and Media Education over the past twenty years. The second consists of a broad description, from the perspective of media education, of the information society. The third, supported by the metasynthesis analysis of a selection of international articles, tries to indicate the contours of a new Literacy by identifying its specificity in the three dimensions of criticism, ethics and aesthetics.
