Abstract

In the perspective of a dialogue between linguists and scholars of literature, the present article analyses the seven Italian translations of “Na shee melkikh chetok ryad” (1913) by Anna Akhmatova. The research is carried out on the basis of some of the critical categories expressed by B.M. Eikhenbaum and V.V. Vinogradov in the seminal studies that they devoted to the poetess in the early Twenties, which were known in Italy already in the years between the two world wars. Attention is drawn in particular to the translation of verbs, particles, adverbs, and conjunctions (particularly relevant to the two Russian scholars) with the aim of carrying out an analysis of Akhmatova’s most distinctive stylistic traits and of their linguistic marks, which can allow a reading of the Italian translations that is based on some of the objective features of the text.
