Form and function of the German adjective "faustisch" are considered and the distribution of the word is taken into account. An analysis of its occurrences in a small corpus shows that it is used as a relational adjective: adjectives of this sort refer to the second argument of a predicate relation which remains implicit (the first argument being referred to by the noun to which the adjective is connected in the phrase). The conclusion is that the very meaning of the relation connecting the adjective and the noun remains implicit and must be reconstructed from the text or from the situation referred to.
