Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] The principle of non-discrimination is synonymous with equality, even if it is a consequence of it. In fact, equality implies a judgment of theoretical value, it is an affirmation of thought that pertains to the essence of man, while non-discrimination concerns the behavior of man, it is, in a certain way, the precept that derives from the value discovery. Equality is a "yes", non-discrimination is a "no". They are two sides of the same coin. In fact, the two terms - non discrimination, equality - are linked in the most solemn current legal documents, from international declarations and conventions on human rights to national constitutions. The principle of non-discrimination or equality, in which a criterion of justice is recognized, is one of the cornerstones of modern legal culture; its entry into the contemporary cultural, juridical and political vocabulary is now widely acquired and is considered the architrave of modern legal systems. Present in all areas of social life, it is declined in a myriad of facets and articulated in a framework of norms of various origins and nature elaborated in multiple contexts. Among these: economics, entrepreneurship, work, immigration, politics, inclusion, integration, social security, vocational training and, precisely, bioethics and biodiversity. The breadth, complexity and amount of legal documents in this regard requires a selection of profiles to be considered for the purpose of the contribution. Therefore, it has no claim to be exhaustive, but simply emphasizes some of the aspects that most affect the principle of non-discrimination-equality in the area of biodiversity, especially considering the thorniest and most debated issues. The contribution is divided into the following points: 1. Equality: a conquest of modernity. - 2. Human dignity and equality. - 3. New discrimination at the beginning and end of human life. - 4. Equality and family. 5. Equality, democracy and peace
