Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] Introduction. Research not only shows that behaviors have an impact on the well-being of individuals and their relationships, but in this association it also underlines the mediating role of the perceptions of the recipients of such behaviors. In particular, in the dyadic coping process, or rather in the way in which the partners manage everyday stress together, the role of perceptions has been highlighted at a theoretical level, but never tested empirically. Objectives and Methods. In particular, we asked ourselves a) how is the perception of the partner's dyadic coping behavior in stress situations associated with his own behaviors and the behaviors that the partner reports to put in place; b) how this relationship is connected to couple satisfaction; and c) whether these associations are similar or different for men and women. In order to answer these questions, the present study uses longitudinal data collected at a distance of one year from both partners (N = 115 pairs) and analyzed through the Actor Partner Interdependence Model. Results. The results show that the perceptions of the partner's dyadic coping are explained both by the perception of one's behavior and by the perception of the behavior of the other. Furthermore, the dyadic coping perceptions of the partners mediate the relationship between the behaviors reported and their relational satisfaction. No statistically significant gender effects were found. Conclusions. The results will be discussed in light of the implications for the research on dyadic coping and the couple relationship as well as for the intervention in these areas.
