[Autom. eng. transl.] The paper deals with the problem of the relationship between imperial onomastics and the image of a male bust impressed on Byzantine glass exagia. The names refer to Constantine, Anastasius, Justinus and Justinian. More complex is the recognition of the identity of the person depicted, who has been recognized by various scholars as the eparch of Constantinople or as the emperor. THERE. agrees with this second interpretation, which seems better to account for the iteration of the busts on some exagia, of the attributes held in the hands by the characters depicted, of the presence of the halo. The concluding remarks take up the theme of the relationship between name and image on the Longobard rings-seal: the use of the nominative case - as it is for the exagia with imperial onomastics - leads to the identification of the person depicted with the owner of the ring. The coincidence between the written name and the image is finally interpreted as revealing a strong perception of one's individuality by the Lombard man.
