Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] Friedrich Nietzsche's thought runs like Gabriel Karcel's philosophy like a karst river, now flowing under the silent earth, now resurfacing with rhapsodic sobs. Between controversial distances and enthusiastic approaches, Marcel's relationship with Nietzsche is as prudent as it is passionate; the understanding with Nietzschean thought is often barely hinted at, although philosophically genuine and stimulating. Marcel wishes to pay homage to Nietzsche's greatness and interpret him as one of the most eminent representatives of existential thought, aware of having to deal with a thinker as distant from him as he is paradoxically very close, in whom love and passion for sincerity blaze. . By opening the conference "Nietzsche: l'homme devant la mort de dieu", Marcel highlights the extraordinary relevance of Nietzsche's thought and figure. He seems to be saying to his listeners: "Nietzsche is here among us". It is impossible to think that it "belongs to the past": indeed, he is "the most contemporary of contemporaries". His philosophy is a mine of ideas and intuitions that need to be enhanced. There is still a lot of him to discover. It is not at all "outdated", precisely because, Marcel thunders, "before you claim to have left it behind, it is better to make sure that you have reached it". Marcel's texts on Nietzsche, gathered here for the first time and unpublished in translation, if on the one hand they respond to specific requests and contingencies, on the other they document a constant interest. As confirmed interventions and quotations widespread in the works, Nietzsche was a real travel companion for Marcel.
