Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] The origin of the western genre can be traced back to the show brought on tour from 1883 by Buffalo Bill called ‘Wild West and Congress of Rough Riders of the World’. This form of entertainment quickly transformed into a successful literary genre, to then find its natural form of expression especially in cinema. Far from finished, the western is today experiencing a renewed centrality also thanks to television series and the search for new stylistic and narrative trajectories. The contribution aims to analyze which elements of the classic western persist in the neo-western and how the basic formula of the genre manages to maintain its relevance and topicality, adapting to new media and the changed sensibilities of the public.
