[Autom. eng. transl.] Along the varied and complex flow of communication in which we are immersed, the emotional punctuation of the events is characterized both by communicative acts in the presence and by mediated communication acts. As abundantly documented in the literature, the innumerable forms of expression of emotions directly communicated to the interlocutor through the different expressive systems conveyed by the body (posture, facial expression, vocal variations, etc.) become part of the subject's emotional experience. However, equally numerous and in part less investigated are the forms of emotional expression conveyed by systems of figural representation that envisage the delayed transmission and the physical permanence of the object represented, that is the visual artifacts, from the drawing to the more sophisticated forms of communication by images. In particular, the interest of this contribution is aimed at the analysis of the ability to use forms of emotional representation of a figurative type. This competence is connected to the most basic ability to identify the emotions of others on the basis of expressive indications and circumstances, taking into account the norms of one's own culture regarding the meaning of the various emotional expressions
