Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] The different techniques of representation of the topos of the delirium of love are compared in three canonical works of nineteenth-century Italian literature, such as "Adelchi" by Manzoni, "Storia di una capinera" by Verga and "Senilità" by Svevo, highlighting the progressive refinement of the methods of rendering this state of mental alienation and its complex and disjointed verbal manifestations, as an index, at the same time, of the development of scientific acquisitions on the subject and the advancement of literary modernity.
