Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] The contribution examines twenty coins found during excavations carried out in the courtyards of the Catholic University of Milan. The specimens come from layers relevant to the same phase, corresponding to the moment immediately preceding the installation of the extended sepulchral area identified. Twelve coins were found isolated in a layer, while eight sesterzıs had been deposited together in a storeroom. The aim is not therefore to present the totality of the numismatic documentation found during the extensive investigations of the Catholic University, but to verify how the data coming from the study of coins can be placed alongside the chronology proposed for a specific phase of attendance - advanced on the basis of archaeological and stratigraphic indicators highlighted and referring to data coming from the study of other classes of associated materials - contributing to its best definition. The numismatic reflections have also allowed us to hypothesize that the storeroom, coming from an area disturbed by successive interventions, was deposed some decades after the extensive activities of transformation of the area functional to the installation of the necropolis, which can be placed on the basis of the findings. coins in layer between the end of the II and the first years of the III century AD
