Modern trends of laser photocoagulation in the treatment of diabetic retinopathy

Research output: Contribution to journalArticle

Abstract

Laser photocoagulation in the treatment of diabetic retinopathy classified into non-proliferative, preproliferative and proliferative forms is reviewed.\r\nClinical aspects and pathophysiological mechanisms are examined to explain the rationale of laser photocoagulation.\r\nFocal and grid techniques are described for macular edema in non-proliferative retinopathy giving treatment parameters and wavelength characteristics.\r\nPRP (panretinal photocoagulation) is described for proliferative diabetic retinopathy. Results and present trends are reported with indications and complications.\r\nEndophotocoagulation is then described as the technique utilized during pars plana vitrectomy in advanced diabetic retinopathy
