Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] It is really true: ubi fides ibi libertas. The expression is of Saint Ambrose, "a beautiful phrase - mocked Biffi - that he must have copied from my episcopal coat of arms". The Cardinal loved to repeat it - and I still quote from memory -: "a great fortune of those who belong to Christ is to be free". This freedom, a prerogative which was very dear to him, and which manifested itself in a genuine and excellent way, could be appreciated above all in his clear speech. A clarity of expression that was the reflection of a clear, lucid thought, without compromise or vain hypocrisy
