Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] The monograph is part of the recent historiographical debate on the importance of episcopal commissions in European artistic production, analyzing the case of Milan between the tenth and eleventh centuries, at the time of the elaboration of the Romanesque language. The volume tries to reconstruct in an organic way the figurative culture matured in this context, starting from the illuminated manuscripts set up in the cathedrals of Milan and from the study of the working methods of the pictorial workers, to arrive at investigating new relationships with Rome and the early Christian tradition .
