Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] The article aimed to delve deeper into the study of Giovannino Guareschi's 'La scoperta di Milano', a novel that has been little studied to date but is fundamental to understanding the complex relationship that links the author to the so-called "sprawling metropolis". Guareschi does not compose his first volume from scratch, but reuses much of the material already published. He uses samples, quotes and recoveries from journalistic writings published in the "Bertoldo" and in the afternoon edition of the "Corriere della Sera". Alongside these, reworked and variously inserted in the 'Scoperta', he also includes a large series of clichés about the so-called "Moral Capital", making frequent allusions to advertisements of the time, postcards and widespread sayings, which describe the city through a constant reference between word and image. Also drawing on unpublished material kept at the Giovannino Guareschi Archive (Roncole Verdi, PR), the essay intends to retrace the complex work of constructing the work and its fruitful relationships with the world of advertising. of journalism and cinema.
