Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] The essay reconstructs the birth of the Italian Touring Club in the Milan of the late nineteenth century, capturing the peculiar "Ambrosian" and modern aspects in the desire to be a national association, aimed at concretely favoring the cycling practice of the adherents and collaborating to establish in Italians the awareness of to be part of a unitary nation. The tourism proposed by the TCI was therefore proposed to solicit patriot love through the knowledge of the national territory with the means that modernity made available to travel with ever increasing speed, effective symbols of progress towards whose goals the most Milanese bourgeoisie avant-garde wanted to strive.
