Metacognitive Decision-Making Scenarios (MDMS): proposta di uno strumento per valutare la consapevolezza nei processi decisionali

[Autom. eng. transl.] Decision-making capacity is one of the most pervasive and important aspects throughout the life cycle of the individual. Making your choices correctly is essential for maintaining a prolonged autonomy in everyday life, an aspect that is crucial especially with advancing age. Although numerous studies show that for an effective decision it is important to be aware of the decision-making process implemented, there are no tools available in the literature that are able to detect this awareness. The latter is especially important in old age, when the majority of cognitive functions underlying decision-making tend to be less efficient, thus also affecting the quality of one's decisions. In this contribution we want to describe the Metacognitive Decision-Making Scenarios, a self-report tool designed to investigate awareness within the decision-making process of the elderly, together with the results derived from its preliminary application in the pilot phase. The answers of 40 participants were analysed, revealing that the tool has levels of internal consistency above the acceptance threshold and stability of the answers over time. The relationships between the subscales and the main cognitive abilities and psychological characteristics related to the decision-making process are also considered, as well as possible differences in the answers based on age, schooling and gender.
