Abstract

The media dynamically and complexly shape the forms and processes of remembering, transforming differently our way of knowing, preserving, and representing the past. In particular, the first part of this contribution will present a survey of the main theoretical junctures concerning the relationship between memory and media, as they have been elaborated within various founding contributions of Memory Studies. The second part will focus on the points of contact between memory and history, looking especially at how media contribute to the construction of cultural traumas and their respective regimes of historicity. Finally, in the third part, the discourse on the formal structures of temporality will be interpreted considering the feeling of nostalgia and the vintage tendencies that characterise contemporary media production and consumption.
