Abstract

The article introduces the first translation of an article published in Czech in 1911 by the founder of Prague Linguistic Circle, Vilém Mathesius, which was about ellypsis. It regarded English sentences without verbs, mainly quoted from literary works.The introduction contextualizes Mathesius'contribution from the point of view of the history of linguistic theory , at the intersection between natural languages, cognitive processes and communicative dynamism.
