Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] The issue of reconciling work and private life is widely debated and there are numerous studies and empirical evidences that support the importance of identifying methods and management practices of people able to harmonize this relationship. The benefits are and would be evident at various levels. On an individual level, a better balance between work life and private life translates into satisfaction and well-being and less stress on both the work and personal fronts. There is also evidence that these positive consequences can be effectively translated also at the organizational level, materializing in a better organizational climate, greater identification and involvement of workers, up to contributing to the development of organizational performance. Lastly, even at a social level, the reconciliation between family and work falls within this framework and among the practices supporting the relationship between work and family a privileged position is normally recognized to maternity management practices, understood as all those solutions that help support the relationship between the mother worker and the organization.
