Massimo il Confessore. Saggio di bibliografia generale ragionata e contributi per una ricostruzione scientifica del suo pensiero metafisico e religioso

[Autom. eng. transl.] In this monograph I present an innovative general framework for an overall scientific reconstruction of the figure and thought of Massimo the Confessor. Starting from a bibliographic survey based on a collection, as broad as possible, of scientific publications on the Confessor in the most common western languages (Italian, English, German, French, Spanish, as well as Greek and Latin, with hints to other cultures), from me critically reviewed in a vast, reasoned bibliography, developing a synthetic framework in various perspectives. In the first Chapter I present critically the life and works of the Confessor, reconstructing, on the basis of scientific literature, the "status quaestionis" and the fundamental data concerning the biography, the authentic writings and the others, the fragments, the main ancient translations and modern. The second chapter contains an annotated bibliography on the largest number available to me of works dedicated to the confessor in the main western languages, from the early twentieth century to the eighties, often with extensive analytical files. For this work of gathering and analyzing, I used foreign libraries and research and retrieval methods at the time of the avant-garde, above all thanks to the aid of Swiss and German inter-library services. Starting from the texts thus collected, I present in the third Chapter an overall reconstruction of Massimo's thought, with conspicuous quotations of passages translated by me, with the aim of recovering the importance of the Confessor also for the philosophical field in an intercultural perspective, both from the point of view from a metaphysical point of view, both from the gnosiological one and from the anthropological-ethical-mystical as well as the cosmological and historical one, relying on significant revaluations of the author at the cultural crossroads of the 7th century, for example by HU von Balthasar. The Appendices follow, with Indices and Concordances, which allow the text to be used synthetically and in connection with other Catalogs dedicated to the Confessor.
