Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] Mario Romani (1917-1975) was a lecturer for a quarter of a century in Economic History at the Catholic University of the Sacred Heart in Milan and is considered one of the great Italian masters of the discipline. On the anniversary of the centenary of his birth, the essay reconstructs the salient points of his research, focusing in particular on agriculture and the processes of modernization and long-term development. His studies on the twentieth century emphasized the role of workers' trade unions as a decisive social force in the processes of modernization in the world of production and in the democratic system of our country.
