Abstract

The book reconstructs the artistic work of Mario de Maria (1853-1924), Bolognese painter, one of the protagonists of symbolist, in relation to the new Italian and European art of the late nineteenth century, starting from 1886, the year of success in the group exhibition Art Libertas, until 1912. Friend of Gabriele D'Annunzio, a member of the group to Rome Art In Libertas, de Maria has played an important role in Italian culture at the end of the century, helping to bring the landscape painting of the late romantic and realist matrix to issues closer to Central European climate secessionism.
