Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] The modern vision of psychiatric care is centered on an approach to the treatment and rehabilitation of mental disorder able to "actively" confront the problem of chronicity, thanks to the integration of levels of intervention that are not rigidly sequential but complementary, and with multiple possibility of interaction. Psychiatric rehabilitation techniques are acquiring an increasingly central role in the integrated treatment of numerous mental disorders, with the aim of further promoting patient integration in the community. On the other hand, psychiatric rehabilitation has long been considered a practice with contours that are not always well defined, with activities frequently guided by "common sense", by courage and "good will" by more or less professional figures. Modern research in this area is increasingly contributing to the formulation of structured interventions that are articulated in progressive stages, each with selective and targeted objectives that are constantly subjected to rigorous evaluation procedures. This volume stems from the need to provide a sufficiently comprehensive and in-depth picture of the state of the art of rehabilitation in the context of mood disorders. The work is aimed at all mental health professionals, with particular reference to those who want to acquire the necessary tools to promote this activity in their clinical practice. The manual consists of two sections: a more strictly theoretical general part aimed at the acquisition of knowledge, follows a special part that is more specifically applied, in which some of the acquired skills are declined in intervention paradigms that the reader is encouraged to to develop. In the first part are therefore presented the essential elements for the definition of a correct clinical pathway for patients suffering from mood disorders, with a large space dedicated to rehabilitation strategies and psychosocial intervention models used in this field. In the second part, two group organizational models are proposed, with practical elements and schematic representations able to support those who want to try their hand in this field. This contribution was further embellished with materials and reflections from the direct experience of the authors, who are daily involved in the rehabilitation activities carried out at the Day Hospital of Clinical Psychiatry of the University Hospital "A. Gemini ”of Rome.
