Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] This manual meets the needs of busy clinicians who belong to various specialties and are involved in the care of the elderly ... Our hope is that this manageable volume will become a field guide for those professionals burdened by their commitments, and will be an aid to to guide the care of vulnerable patients. We also hope that this book will be placed on their desks or in their pockets instead of remaining in their bookstores. The authors of the chapters of this volume are experts in their respective fields who have contributed to updating and focusing the manual on what has the greatest clinical relevance. A variety of specific disorders are included in the discussion, as are the general principles of the clinical interview with elderly patients, the psychopharmacology of the elderly, the care practice in residential facilities. An important issue concerns the transition from DSM-IV to DSM-5, which took place while this manual was at an advanced stage of publication. We have decided not to subject the entire manual to further revision based on the changes occurring between the editions of the DSM, continuing to refer largely to DSM-IV.
