Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] The desire for God and for union with Him is the icon that can help us understand the Theologia Deutsch, a medieval text written by an anonymous priest knight of the Teutonic Order, which was first published by Luther and which had a considerable diffusion in the sects of the Reformation and also in some Catholic groups. Influenced by the Neoplatonic current, the treaty is a passageway between the Rhine mystics and the Modern Devotio. The reflection on God, the Perfect One and his relationship with the creature the imperfect crosses the whole treatise. If from a high it fixes the difference between the two by means of the doctrine of the exemplary cause and in the line of apophatic theology, since God, the Perfect is "none of all that is created" and the creature cannot name it or know it, on the other hand it is the foundation for leading man to the perfect life which consists in union with God. This path is realized in a life lived well - the three ways of Christian asceticism are well present and indicate the way - in abandonment of the old man, Adam, and in the assumption of the new man that materializes in the imitation of Christ.
