Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] In the history of thought, the term "light" has been used in a metaphorical sense to designate the principle of the totality of things and the root of intelligibility, the event of the evidence of the experience and perspicuity of conceptual knowledge. This metaphorical dimension of light has experienced a long course, even before in the philosophical field as metaphysics and theology (Plato, Fathers of the Church, Plotinus, Meister Eckhart, Cusano) and as a theory of "natural lumen" (Aristotle, Thomas Aquinas, Descartes, Leibniz, Malebranche, Rosmini, Gioberti), in the context of religions and mythology (Taoism, Mazdaism, Veda, Gnosticism, Manichaeism, Christianity).
