Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] This contribution deals with the literary work of John Henry Newman, framing it first in the complex cultural intrigue that concerns religion and letters in the England of the nineteenth century with particular reference to the Trattariano Movement, to then conduct a textual reading that highlights the specificities of Loss and Gain with respect to the phenomenon of religious novels. These specificities reside in the modes of representation of conversion which, as we will see, textualize Newman's theoretical formulations on the economics of revelation and literature, and place the work within the autobiographical discourse present in the Newmanian macrotext.
