Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] This text will present some issues relating to the affirmation of the interpretative categories of hate (hate) and hate speech (hate speech), with particular attention to the social web (hate speech online), in public debate and in scientific studies; it will be emphasized how the process of defining these categories is underway and influenced by different disciplinary perspectives. We will then discuss how the phenomenon impacts on the Catholic Church, and Pope Francis in particular, on the one hand as a potential target, on the other as a stimulus for cultural reflection on society. In this sense, the interventions of the Church will be analyzed, both from a historical point of view and with reference to the most recent documents by Bergoglio and the Social Communications Office of the Italian Bishops' Conference.
