Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] Cattaneo's reflections on development are framed in the context of the question concerning the contribution of positivism to the structuring of political economy as a science. The positivism present in Cattaneo is reconnected to the trust that Lombard economists from Verri to Beccaria to Romagnosi to Gioia show to have in industrialism and technical progress, confidence that they know how to decline in a culture of economic development and at the same time social and civil. In his writings on the subject Cattaneo on the one hand he exalts the importance of the economy, on the other in claiming that it has a solid scientific basis, it links it in an indissoluble way to the civil problems of development, as if the economy could have effects a "regenerating" role for civil society
