Abstract
The book analyzes all forms of religious spectacle elaborated in Florence between the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries, identifying, for each of them, the performative language used and its correspondence to the message, pedagogical, political, moral, entrusted to them. Particular attention is given to: 1- the identity feast of St. John the Baptist; 2- the Feast of the Magi as an expression of pre-eminence of the ruling class; 3- the representations for the council of 1439 as a 'manifesto' of the Latin Church propaganda in favour o the union between Eastern and Western Churches; 4- the sacred representation as an educational system of the new Medici Florence based on the union between classical and Christian pedagogy; 5- the transformations in the communication system introduced by the serial press of sacred representations.
