Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] The body scandal may not be a suitable title for a volume of writings on theater. Much less if the volume is thought of as a gift, perhaps more like a party, for a friend. Yet, to those who imagined it, it seemed to pertinently summarize Claudio Bernardi's eccentric but coherent research on the meaning of theater for man and on the role of theater within the community life of men. A research, his, historical-anthropological in the strict sense that has dealt not with theater as a spectacle to watch and to enjoy as spectators united by a modality of aesthetic use, but with theater to do and to participate in as actors of community, religious, social, political relations and so on. Claudio has dedicated his life not only to the "theater of the body", or rather of the bodies, which does not have a beautiful product as a goal, but a handsome, good and true man. The center of his interest has always been the set of men, with their bodies in relationship and the dynamics of desire that inevitably arise between them, leading to rivalry and violence and, then, producing systems and rules to allow life common. Therefore, the term body used in the title indicates man, humanity.
