[Autom. eng. transl.] "Mediation is a foreign word, Gjentagelse is a healthy Danish word, and I congratulate the Danish language, which has a philosophical term," writes Constantin Constantius after twenty pages of Gjentagelsen. But to congratulate her is in many ways mocking, if not polemical, since the word "gentagelse" never becomes a "philosophical term" - for which perhaps the word must thank in particular its own work Gjentagelsen. Gjentagelsen in fact is not a learned analytical treatment of the concept, but is rather a story about a concept that lends itself to so many definitive approximations and to real abuses of meaning, which in the end is not understood at all, but is simply demolished and goes in pieces under the eyes of the reader. If this undoing of the repetition in Gjentagelsen is due to the weak attitudes of the concept itself or perhaps rather to the brisk handling of the concept by the story, it is difficult to settle, but that Gjentagelsen is misunderstood, if we focus only on the concept and yes let alone the rest, this is indisputable. In other words, if we try to get hold of repetition regardless of narrative, rhetoric, images, in short the literary linguistic form, then I maintain that we have grasped what is less essential. It was in principle such an operation that JL Heiberg carried out when in December 1843 he reviewed Gjentagelsen with certain reservations, which led the irritated Kierkegaard to elaborate a sort of "informant" whose purpose was to make Heiberg aware of correct reading of Gjentagelsen.
