Abstract

The first published translation of Iter Gallicum, a work composed by an anonymous disciple of Pier Damiani and traveling companion during the mission in Gaul. Here Pier Damiani is a guest of the Cluniac monks and works personally to resolve the disputes between Cluny and the bishop of Macon. An introduction analyzes not only the manuscript tradition and the controversies over the anonymous author, but also analyzes the figure of the hermit of Fonte Avellana that shines through the work.
