Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] According to John Henry Newman, "a Literature, when it is formed, is a national and historical fact". He was aware of the fatal risk of a generalized conflict that could have involved everyone in the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Ireland, triggering an omnivorous and extremely unstable explosive mixture: to defuse it, he also resorted to literature, giving it a role of great importance in The Idea of a University.
