Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] We analyze the writings of some Italian chancelleries in relation to the concept of Italy, which appears as a geographical and non-political concept, even if on some occasions external dangers, such as the landing of the Turks in Otranto, determined a need to think of a unity, but of autonomous states, against the external enemy. In Machiavelli this difference in relation to the unity of the French kingdom is very clear.
