Abstract
[Autom. eng. transl.] The speaker Lysias, a Syracusan who lived in Athens in the Judeo-metec condition, fully entered with his family, in the ideal context of the Athenian democratic experience, from the age of Pericles to the years of the restoration of the early fourth century. The volume collects a series of essays (published between 1991 and 2002, with the addition of an unpublished article) that outline a path of deepening of the relationship between Lysias and Athenian democracy, allowing a coherent "democratic" voice to emerge on the ideological level , although paradoxically not a citizen, on the events of Athens at the turn of the fifth and fourth centuries: the years of defeat in war, of the constitutional crisis, of democratic restoration, of the difficult recovery of civic harmony. The attack on the memory of the ambiguous Teramene, the contestation of the amnesty, the systematic delegitimization of the oligarchic movement, the convinced vindication of democratic values reveal that Lysias, although relegated to a legally subordinated role, did not feel alien to the democratic civic community, but he expressed a profound adherence to his system of values.
