[Autom. eng. transl.] In recent years, private customers have shown a growing interest in investments in non-financial assets such as physical gold, real estate, works of art, diamonds and wine. This opened up two new analytical perspectives to scholars, one in the field of portfolio theory, the other in the field of organizational studies. This work aims to: a) examine the correlations existing between traditional asset classes (shares, bonds and liquidity) and non-financial assets; b) present the results of a survey that we carried out via questionnaire within a large sample of private banks operating in Italy in order to verify the strategic relevance of this new business area and any organizational changes that may have been implemented; c) examine the organizational models of sub-advisory that, in our opinion, are the most suitable for this new business and therefore could be adopted by the operators of the sector to offer a service of excellence to its customers in non-financial investment.
