Abstract
The spread of chatbots is presenting us with a cultural revolution comparable to that generated by the advent of writing. For the first time in our history, we interact in a linguistically sophisticated way with non-human entities. This book explores how chatbots, as conversation machines based on generative artificial intelligence such as ChatGPT and DeepSeek, produce meaningful texts and whether their capacity for dialogue calls into question the traditional characterization of the human as a thinking being.
