Abstract

[Autom. eng. transl.] One of the most famous master inlayers of the Italian 16th century, the Dominican lay brother Damiano Zambelli (Bergamo, circa 1480 - Bologna, 1549) was one of the last exponents of the flourishing Renaissance tradition of wood inlay. This volume presents the first monographic investigation of his artistic production, with particular attention to the Bolognese period, which after his debut in his native Lombardy constituted the most exciting and intense moment of the friar's career. He found himself working more than ever "at the crossroads of the arts", in a continuous reciprocal exchange with other artistic disciplines and their representatives, producing masterpieces that achieved early international success.
