The paper critically analyses the tests of the 2011 Esame di Stato (Certificate of Higher Education) for the liceo linguistic (language high school). Its aim is not just to comment on theme choices and tests formulation, but above all to take stock of competences and skills to be developed in learners, in order to train them properly, through the action of in-service teachers, for the test of 2012. The analyses consider French, English and German language.
